Pure Heaven.

Well, today is my first day to wear my new maternity pants. I feel kind of silly wearing them, since I don't have my nice bump yet, but they came in the mail yesterday and they are actually really cute. Something I did not know is that no maternity pants have zippers. You just pull them on, it is wonderful. I guess it makes sense, but I never thought of that before. Apparently, I needed a stretchy waist line more than I thought, because these pants may be the best thing I have ever put on my body. I didn't realize how uncomfortable my pants were until I put this miracle invention on today. No more unbuttoning when I get in the car or sit down at my desk at work. They feel great!

I guess we forgot to mention...

...the name. We are naming our boy Brady Clemens Smith. Brady, because we love the name and Clemens after Cara's Grandpa Steiner.

Brady's first presents...

As I mentioned on the last post, Colby had a surprise waiting for me...and Brady in the car after the sonogram. Here are Brady's new Puma booties and "Babe Magnet" shirt.

It's a BOY!!!!

We are so excited to announce that we are having a baby boy!!! I hate to say I told you so, but I knew it all along. :) We had our big sonogram today and everything looked great! The doctor was very thorough and was measuring the skull, limbs, heart, brain and then in passing happened to mention it was a boy. He was showing us the kidneys and the bladder and in the same sentence said..."and it is a boy", without even changing his tone. He then continued on to show us the pelvic and leg bones. We barely even caught it, but Colby and I looked at each other and said...Wait? What? Did you say boy? The doctor then went back to show us his boy parts and I still couldn't tell, but that is why he is the doctor. We of course asked him if he was sure. He said..."well, unless it falls off, you have a boy." That pretty much sums it up. Everything else measured right on my dates and nothing abnormal, so all good news for the Smiths today. Colby surprised me with pink and blue gifts in the car after the sonogram. He had them all wrapped up and ready to go no matter what the outcome. We will have to save the girl gift for later, but I will post some pics of Baby Smith's new digs this weekend.

18 weeks!

I read today that the baby is now the size of a large sweet potato and each leg is about the size of your pinky finger. Sounds huge to me, since I am yet to wear maternity pants, but I guess he/she is in there somewhere. I actually ordered my first articles of maternity clothing today -two pairs of pants from Gap Maternity. I figure I will need them in the next few weeks and at the very least they will be much more comfortable than what I am squeezing into now. I look forward every day to coming home from work and changing out of my slacks and into my super-soft, Nike workout pants Colby bought me to grow into. They are a size Large, so a little roomy right now, but they are my most favorite pants and definitely NOT used for working out. Why ruin them with sweat?!

Crazy Baby!

This baby loves to move. Maybe he/she is like their mommy and can't sit still for two seconds, but either way it is very entertaining for me. I can feel him (I keep saying him) during the day a few times, but after dinner is play time. I seem to feel more when I lie down and last night there were a few movements that were so strong you could see it from the outside. A little tap from the inside that I could actually see from the outside. If you blink you miss it, Colby did, but it happened three times. Twice and then once more later that night. I was amazed and it must have just been the way the baby was situated because it was the first time I had experienced that.

Countdown...

Well, we find out the gender this Friday and we could not be more excited. The baby is still so tiny, but I can feel him/her moving about two or three times a day now. Just a little tap here and there. My prediction has been boy from the beginning and because I am so sure of it, Colby is positive it will be a girl. We have no preference either way, but we will see if mother's intuition is correct. I will keep everyone posted on Friday of the news. Our appointment is first thing in the morning. Only 4 more days!!!

Baby or Gas???

They say you can feel the baby move at around 16 weeks. Tomorrow I am 17 weeks and felt it for the first time last night. I thought I had felt the "little flutters" for the last few days, but was it gas? Was it the baby? Who knows. This one was very different and very obvious, kind of like a little tiny tapping from inside. It happened a couple of times and Colby put his hand on my stomach just in time to catch the last little one. It wasn't a big kick, just a little tap, but he could actually feel it through my skin. It was so exciting and now I am obsessed with feeling every little twinge.

Cara - 16 weeks

We went to the Dr on our 16th week thinking we were still going to have to wait an entire month before we find out if it's a he or a she, but the Dr. told us we could find out in two weeks! So...stay tuned.....two more weeks!
